Less than 10 miles from the state's border with Illinois and 16 miles north of Terre Haute, the town of Clinton, Indiana, is home to nearly 10,000 residents in western Indiana. The city was named after DeWitt Clinton, governor of New York from 1817 to 1823. Construction and health care are the largest industries in town, and those in search of a house for rent or an apartment for rent can receive medical service at the town's West Central Community Hospital. Clinton is home to Little Italy Festival, a four-day Labor Day Weekend celebration of the area’s Italian and coal mining heritage. The event is more than 50 years old and attracts more than 75,000 visitors annually. It also hosts the Indiana Bocce Ball championship and is the owner of one of fewer than 400 genuine gondolas in the United States. Three elementary, one middle school and South Vermillon High School make up the public school system, and those in search of a house for rent or an apartment for rent can find nearby in Terre Haute Indiana State University and Rose Hulman Institute.
