Right off I-69 just south of Marian and about an hour southwest of Fort Wayne, Gas City, Indiana, formerly known as Harrisburg, began as a big industrial town in the late 1800s when there was discovered an abundance of natural gas in the surrounding areas. Though the boom ended and the factories shut down by the early 1900s, the town has continued to embrace its heritage through its name. Gas City lies near the Mississinewa River in Grant County with about 6,000 residents, and is not far from the town of Marian.
