Situated about halfway between Lafayette and Fort Wayne in north central part of the state, Peru, Indiana is home to almost 13,000 Hoosiers. Transportation equipment and health care are the largest industries in the town, with Dukes Memorial Hospital a large employer and the provider of medical services to those searching for a house for rent or an apartment for rent in town. Five elementary schools, a middle school and Peru High School make up the public school system, with a couple of private schools providing alternatives. Maconaquah Park and West City Park provide outdoor areas to enjoy the scenery. Peru, in Miami County, was once the home to the winter headquarters for several circuses, including Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey, and Wallace, and to reflect this heritage the town is home to the International Circus Hall of Fame. In addition, in July, the Peru Amateur Circus holds performances during the week, which culminates with the Circus City Festival and Parade. The performers are amateurs, from 7 to 21 years old. Peru also houses the Grissom Air Museum and a number of golf courses: Peru Municipal Golf Course, Rock Hollow Golf Club and Indian Oaks Golf Club.
