The city of Independence, Iowa, is conveniently located just moments north of highway 20. Located in the northeastern portion of Iowa, Independence is the county seat of Buchanan County. About 6,000 people live in this small community. Founded in the mid-1800s, some of the city’s original structures remain to this day. A six-story grist mill can be found along Main Street. Originally used for wool processing and energy, the mill is a museum today. In addition, old breweries, churches, and mansions are still standing throughout the city. When you live in an Independence house for rent or apartment for rent, you’ll be able to appreciate some of these antique structures, but still enjoy modern amenities throughout the city.
