Agawam is a medium sized community found in the southwestern portion of the state of Massachusetts. Agawam has a population of approximately twenty eight thousand one hundred residents, and is considered a part of Hampden County. Agawam is situated in the Springfield, Massachusetts Metropolitan Statistical Area, and strikes a pleasant balance between rustic New England charm and a great location. Residents of an Agawam apartment for rent or house for rent can enjoy a wide variety of things to see and do both in Agawam itself and in the rest of Hampden County. Agawam’s name is believed to mean “unloading place” or “fishcuring place”, and is derived from the Chippewa language. Agawam was settled by William Pynchon in the year sixteen thirty six, and was incorporated as a town in the year eighteen fifty five. Educational opportunities in Agawam are offered by four elementary schools, Agawam Middle School, Agawam Junior High School, and Agawam High School. Residents of an Agawam apartment rental or home rental can enjoy the Anne Sullivan Memorial, the Agawam Historical Association, Six Flags New England, the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, and the Metacomet-Monadnock Trail.
