Sound Beach is a quaint hamlet in Suffolk County on the northern coast of Long Island. With a population of about 11,000 residents, Sound Beach is one of the various communities that make up the Town of Brookhaven. Brookhaven has a bustling population of about 449,000 residents. The first people to settle in the area were the Native Americans who belonged to the Setauket and Unkechaug tribes. Later, by as early as 1655, English settlers began to buy land and settle in the area. This community became a center for farming, fishing, and whale hunting. Due to Sound Beach’s location near the ocean, residents and visitors can find many water related activities and services in the area. The area is home to numerous beaches, recreational facilities, parks, and playgrounds that all provide for fun times for people of all ages. The government of Brookhaven also makes a conscious effort to preserve and improve the lush greenery in the town. Sound Beach is a beautiful community that has something to offer to everyone.
