The village of Suffern is located in the southeastern tip of New York in Rockland County in the Town of Ramapo. Suffern has a population of about 12,000 residents. The town was founded by John Suffern, the first judge in Rockland County, in 1796, and the town was named for him. However, the town was settled by Europeans at the foothills of the Ramapo Mountains in as early as 1773. The town was actually called New Antrim at first because that was the hometown of John Suffern.
The village has also been recognized because the Suffern High School because provided the high school scenes for The Manhattan Project, and has been a fictional setting for TV show Sex and the City. Suffern is also home to SUNY’s Rockland Community College. Some of the popular sites and attractions in Suffern include Brooklands Park, Lafayette Theater, the Suffern Railroad Museum, Suffern Village Museum, and the Washington Avenue Soldier’s Monument and Triangle.
