Valley Stream is a charming village situated in Nassau County and has a bustling population of about 37,000 residents. The village is actually incorporated within the Town of Hempstead, along the town’s border with Queens. The area where Valley Stream is now located was first settled in 1640, after the land was purchased by the Dutch West India Company from the rockaway Indians. During the village’s early days, it was primarily a farming community surrounded by undeveloped, woodland area. Several districts in the area gained some interesting names, including “Fosters Meadow,” “Rum Junction,” “Cookie Hill,” and “Skunks Misery.” In 1925, the Village of Valley Stream was officially incorporated.
