About Washingtonville

Washingtonville is a charming and beautiful village situated in Orange County and has a population of about 6,000 residents. The village was named in honor of George Washington and it is located within the Town of Blooming Grove. The area was first settled in 1731, and during the village’s early days, it grew very slowly. In 1809, John Jacques set up a shoemaker shop known as “Little York.” Jacques would later establish the Brotherhood Winery in 1839, which is the oldest continuously operating winery in the nation. Before the village acquired the name Washingtonville, it was known as “Matthews Field” and later “Little York.”
