About Webster

Webster is a charming town located in Monroe County along the northern border of New York on Lake Ontario. With a population of about 39,000 residents, Webster is the fastest-growing suburb in Rochester. The town was named after Daniel Webster, who was an orator and statesman, and the town also promotes the motto, “Where Life Is Worth Living.” The town was named Webster when the farmers from North Penfield were so impressed by the speech he made to a gathering of Whigs in nearby Rochester about the economy that they wanted a separate town and wanted to name it in his honor.

Today, the rich history of Webster is preserved in the town’s museum. The museum exhibits both permanent, historical displays, as well as changing, seasonal displays. The town is also known for its excellent sports programs in and out of schools. In 2005, Sports Illustrated awarded the title of “Number 1 Sportstown in New York” to Webster. The magazine stated that the town has found creative and innovative ways to improve sports for the well-being of the community.
