About Wellsville

The beautiful town of Wellsville is located in Allegany County, New York and has a population of about 8,000 residents. Wellsville is situated in the southern half of the county, only eight miles north of the Pennsylvania Border. The village of Wellsville is also located within the town, but they are each serviced by two, separate governments. The first pioneers arrived in the Wellsville area in around the late 1700’s, when Nathaniel Dike, a Captain in the Revolutionary War founded a settlement in Elm Valley. In 1856, Wellsville was formed from part of the Town of Scio. The Village of Wellsville was founded a year later.

Some major educational institutions located in and around Wellsville include the Alfred State College, New York State College of Ceramics, Alfred University, and Houghton College. The Dykes Creek also runs through the town and serves as a great natural attraction. The Wellsville Municipal Airport is also situated on the west side of Westville. Some of the exciting events held in Wellsville include the Lions Club Fishing Derby, the Great Wellsville Hot Air Balloon Rally, the Ridgewalk and Run, and great hunting and outdoor activities. Wellsville is a beautiful rural community that has much to offer to all of its guests and residents.
