About Williamson

The Town of Williamson has a friendly population of about 7,000 and is located in northwestern Wayne County along the south shore of Lake Ontario. Williamson was named after Charles Williamson, who was a land agent of the Pultney Estate. Native Americans lived in the area around Williamson, until the land was purchased from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by Oliver Phelps and Nathaniel Gorham. Pultneyville, which is a hamlet located in Williamson, was one of the first settlements and Daniel Russell was the first white settler to build a log cabin there in 1794.

Today, Williamson is primarily a rural farming community. However, recent industrial growth has resulted companies such as Kerox and Eastman Kodak to be established in the area. The town is also known for its apples, peaches, cherries, and dairy farming. One of the places in the town that is considered by the residents of Williamson to be a popular landmark is Orbaker’s Drive-In, which is a spectacular hamburger and hotdog stand that was established in 1932. Candy Kitchen, which was opened in 1890 and previously named “Nick’s,” is another famous eatery in the area. Candy Kitchen is noted for its chocolate candies, Greek cuisine, and fountain drinks. Other fun events that take place in Williamson include the Williamson Apple Bossom Festival.
