About Wyandanch

The charming hamlet of Wyandanch has a population of about 11,000 residents and is a community within the Town of Babylon in Suffolk County. Wyandanch is also located near Lindenhurst, Amityville, and Huntington, along the Great South Bay on southern Long Island. The area was established in 1872 when Babylon was seperated from Huntington. The region is filled with a rich history, including that of Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi, who built the first wireless station in the United States at Babylon village. Lawrence Sperry, who was the son of inventor Elmer Sperry, experimented with early guided missiles at nearby Amityville in 1918.

The community grew and developed into a summer yachting resort area, but after World War II, the region experienced rapid population and diversified industrial growth. Today, its economy is based on services. Many excellent recreational activities can also be found in the area. Wyandanch Park offers baseball, while swimming is available in Wyandanch Lake. Residents and visitors can also skate, hunt, picnic, fishing, and boating are other great activities that Wyandanch has to offer.
