Located on the border between Chatham and Wake Counties, the town of Cary is the second largest municipality in Wake County. The town has the population of about 113,000 residents and is ranked as the 5th fastest growing city in the United States according to CNN. Cory originated as a small settlement named Bradford’s Ordinary in 1750, and about 100 years later a railroad belonging to the North Carolina Railroad was built in the area. Allison Francis “Frank” Page, who was a farmer and lumberman, is credited with founding the town, and he built the first streets in Cary, a sawmill, a general store, hotel, and post office. Page named the town after Samuel Fenton Cary, a former Ohio congressman, and became the first mayor of Cary when the town was incorporated in 1871. The largest employer in Cary is SAS Institute, which is the largest privately held software company in the world. There are also numerous schools located in Cary that offer great educational opportunities, including Cary Academy and Wake Technical Community College.
