The charming town of Cornelius is situated in Mecklenburg County and has a population of about 12,000 residents. The town was founded in 1893, but it wasn’t incorporated until 1905, making it the second youngest incorporated town in Mecklenburg County. Cornelius has a history of being a major cotton town, but due to its geographical location and climate, cotton growers relocated to other cities outside of Cornelius. When the Catawba River was dammed, Lake Norman was formed and it helped spur the development and growth of the town. In 1963, Duke Power created Lake Norman to provide the area with hydroelectric power, and as a side benefit, the lake brought a wide array of recreational opportunities and beautiful lakeside properties to Cornelius. In 2003, the Lake Norman Regional Economic Development Corporation was established in order to help bring economic wealth to the region. This led to the construction of the North Mecklenburg Industrial Park. In addition to excellent outdoor and recreational opportunities, Cornelius also holds various exciting events and festivals that are fun for people of all ages. The beautiful and charming town of Cornelius is an excellent place for anyone to live it, and it has something to offer to everybody.
