The town of Davidson is located in Iredell and Mecklenburg Counties and has a population of about 8,000 residents. Davidson is also situated along the eastern shore of Lake Norman. The town is also home to Davidson College, which is where the town got its name from. The college was named in honor of Brigadier General William Lee Davidson who was a local Revolutionary War hero in Mecklenburg County and donated much of the land that Davidson College is located on. Originally, Davidson was a small farming community, and it wasn’t until the 20th century that it developed from a very rural town. The town of Davidson boasts a high quality of life due to its relaxing and peaceful small town atmosphere. Much of the activity in Davidson is centered around the college. Davidson also offers great dining, shopping, and recreational opportunities. The main street district is a popular attraction due to its unique shops, wide sidewalks, library, and beautiful landscaping. The town also holds many exciting events and festivals and outdoor concerts. Davidson has made a conscious effort to preserve the greenery of the town and to keep it from getting lost in urban development.
