Situated in the north central portion of the state of North Carolina, Durham is the county seat of Durham County and is the fourth-largest city in the state. The home of Duke University and North Carolina Central University, Durham is a part of the Research Triangle that includes Chapel Hill and Raleigh, as well. The city has about 450,000 residents and is a part of the Raleigh-Durham-Cary metropolitan area.
Durham has a lot of pride for its sports programs, particularly at Duke University with its men's and women's basketball programs. The Durham Bulls International League baseball team is so popular that the film Bull Durham was based on it.
