Situated in central North Carolina, the charming town of Garner is located in Wake County and is a suburb of Raleigh. The town has a population of about 18,000 residents. It wasn’t until the railroad was introduced into the area in 1847 that Garner really began to grow. Garner was chosen as the location of a station of the North Carolina Railroad between Goldsboro and Charlotte, and the station was given the name “Garner’s Station.” The station was also established along with the post office in 1878, and in 1883, the Town of Garner’s Station was officially incorporated.
Originally, Garner was primarily a farming community, with cotton being the main crop, but eventually, small businesses started to move into the area, with the first one being a wood shop owned by Henry Fort. Within the past years, Garner has experienced rapid growth and development. Despite the growth, Garner boasts a small town atmosphere and all of the quality services and amenities of an urban center. The town is also filled with great recreational activities, including golf, which it is known for, as well as interesting art and entertainment experiences.
