The city of Havelock is located in Craven County of eastern North Carolina and has a bustling population of about 22,000 residents. The city is known for being home to the Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, which is the largest Marine Corps air station on the East Coast of the United States. Like the other eight cities in the world with the name Havelock, the city was named after Sir Henry Havelock, a British Officer in India, who was known because of the Indian Mutiny in 1857. The city was originally named “Havelock Station” in the late 1850’s when the Atlantic and North Carolina railroad built a station in the area. One of the most popular events held in Havelock is the seasonal Havelock Chili Festival. The Havelock Tourist and Event Center is where most of the city’s events are held, and it contains many facilities available to all residents and visitors. Havelock also holds an annual golf tournament. Havelock is a beautiful city to live in, and it offers many great dining, shopping, and recreational opportunities to everyone.
