With a population of about 12,000 residents, the town of Hope Mills is located in the beautiful Cumberland County. Although the town was chartered in 1891, Hope Mills can trace its rich history all the way back to 1766, when a lumber camp, saw mill, grist mill, and pottery business were established there due to the abundance of natural water power and timber. Later, in 1839, the first cotton mill in the town was built, and it started a new era that consisted of a thriving cotton industry in the area. Before the town gained its current name of Hope Mills, it was known by the name of Little Rockfish Village and sometimes Hope Mills Number One.
