About Kings Mountain
With a population of about 10,000 residents, the beautiful city of Kings Mountain is located in Cleveland and Gaston Counties. The settlement was originally named White Plains, but after the city was incorporated in 1874, the name was changed to Kings Mountain. The city gained its current name because the community is the closest town to the historic Battle of Kings Mountain. This battle dates back to 1780, and it was a battle that was part of the American Revolution. This victorious battle for America was proclaimed “the turning point of the American Revolution in the South.” The city of Kings Mountain was officially incorporated in 1874. In the early days of Kings Mountain, the city’s economy was based on the textile industry, however, the construction of several highways through the city have helped spur a more diversified economy. There are also three established Industrial Parks located in the area, as well as the Charlotte Douglas International Airport. An indoor natatorium and new Junior Olympic Swimming Pool and Sports Complex provide great recreational services in the city. Quality educational opportunities are offered at nearby schools and universities, including Gardner Webb University. The city of Kings Mountain has something fun and exciting to offer to everyone.
