About Lumberton

The beautiful city of Lumberton is the county seat of Robeson County and is located in southern North Carolina, on the Lumber River. This city of 21,000 is conveniently located only 30 miles south of the city of Fayetteville. The city was founded in 1787 by John Willis, who was an officer of the American Revolution. Lumberton was first developed as a shipping point for lumber and naval supplies that floated downriver to Georgetown, South Carolina. Today, the economy includes lumbering, tobacco curing, textile and apparel manufacturing, and the marketing of agricultural goods. Lumberton is also home to the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
