About Roxboro

With the motto “Roxboro Life Just Right!,” the city of Roxboro is a beautiful and charming city located near the northern border of North Carolina in Person County. Roxboro has a population of about 10,000 residents. The city was named after the city Roxburgh of Scotland, and although the names are spelled differently, they are pronounced the same. Prior to the city’s current name, the city was known as “Mocassin Gap.” The city of Roxboro was officially incorporated in 1855, and unto this day it remains the only municipality in Person County.

There are two industrial parks located in Person County, and Roxboro’s economy consists of various industries including electrical, textile, manufacturing, aerodynamics, administrative, winery, brokering, food processing, tobacco growing, automotive, and aluminum and paper products. Roxboro is also located near North Carolina’s thriving Research Triangle region. Piedmont Community College, along with other quality schools, is located in Roxboro. Person County Museum, Palace Pointe, Roxboro Motorsports Dragway, Kirby Civic Auditorium, Roxboro Commons, and the city’s numerous, beautiful parks are popular attractions located in the area.
