The beautiful city of Salisbury is the county seat of Rowan County, in west-central North Carolina, and has a population of about 27,000 residents. Salisbury lies near High Rock Lake and is situated roughly midway between the bustling cities of Greensboro and Charlotte. The Catawba Indians were the first people living in the region, but in the 1740’s, settlers of Scotch-Irish and German descent began to settle in the area. The city was officially incorporated in 1755 and was most likely named for the city of Salisbury in Wiltshire, England.
Salisbury’s economy thrives primarily upon services provided to the major agricultural region that surrounds the city. This farming region produces products including corn, soybeans, and livestock. The city also has some light manufacturing, including textiles and apparel. Some major establishments in Salisbury include the US Veterans Administration hospital, Catawba College, Livingstone College, and Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. The North Carolina Transportation Museum and Boone’s Cave State Park are also located nearby. Salisbury is a charming city that has much to offer to everyone.
