Situated in eastern North Carolina, the charming town of Williamston is the county seat of Martin County and has a population of about 6,000 residents. Williamston is also within a mere 28 miles of the bustling city of Greenville. Williamston was first established during the early 1700’s by settlers who are said to have moved from Bertie County to the Moratoc River, where a Tuscaroran village once stood. The region was known as “Tar Landing” because the area was a major shipping center for tar, pitch, turpentine, and other forest and meat products.
