Delphos, situated in both Allen and Van Wert counties, was founded in 1844 on the Miami and Erie Canal despite extremely swampy conditions. Although the canal’s importance lessened over the years, an extensive rail network keeps Delphos thriving in the modern day. Eighty-three miles north of Dayton on the I-75, the city of Delphos is home to almost 8,000 residents. Residents of a Delphos home or apartment for rent often work in a variety of local fields including the manufacture of grain elevators, lumber, zinc plating, printing and publishing materials, commercial cleaning, quarries, fertilizer, and food processors. Residents of a Delphos apartment or home rental gain access to an array of attractions and activities that keep the city busy throughout the week. Ohio State University’s students and groups often perform and visit the city. The public K-12 school system and parochial school system each enroll about half of Delphos’ youth. A system of public libraries and recreational parks keeps residents busy year-round. A highlighted attraction is the entertaining Delphos Postal History Museum.
