Home to 47,000 Oklahomans and located 101 miles north of Oklahoma City, Enid was founded in 1893 during the opening of the Cherokee Outlet by land. As a center for the railroad construction, Enid still enjoys convenient rail schedules into Oklahoma City today. Residents of an Enid house or apartment for rent can confidently send their children to the local Enid public schools although the area has an abnormally high number of private and parochial K-12 schools as well. The Autry Technology Center and Northern Oklahoma College are found in Enid as well.
The Northern Hills Golf Course, Meadowlake Park, Meadowlake Park, and Golden Oaks Golf Course provide ample opportunities for residents of an apartment or home in Enid to work out and stay in shape. Because of Enid’s unique history and cultural diversity, an array of attractions is available locally, including the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center, Vance Air Force Base, Gaslight Theatre, Railroad Museum of Oklahoma, Splash Zone Waterpark, Midgley Museum, and Southern Heights Heritage Center and Museum. Amongst important community celebrations are the Cherokee Strip Celebration, Enid Lights Up the Plains, Oktoberfest, Kenwood Land Run Festival, Smokin' Red Dirt Cook-Off & Music Festival, Spring Fling, and Centennial Chisholm Trail Cattle Drive. Residents enjoy these celebrations and festivities as they can catch up with long-lost neighbors and enjoy the company of their community.
