Located in the central part of Oklahoma and situated on a bluff overlooking the Canadian River Valley, Purcell is a city of 6,000 Oklahomans 36 miles south of Oklahoma City along the I-35 corridor. Founded as a railroad town in 1887, the town was developed ahead of the coming Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad. Residents of an apartment or home for rent in Purcell enjoy a community that is both suburban and agricultural, with much employment in agriculture and other non-farm major employers in the area including Tinker Air Force Base and local state correctional facilities. The construction of a local Wal-Mart has brought big-box retailing to Purcell. The Stephen Shephard Memorial/Purcell Airport provides limited commercial service and primarily general aviation use, although most residents opt to commute into Oklahoma City using the railroad from the local Amtrak Station,
Residents of a Purcell house or apartment for rent enjoy spending time at local landmarks like McClain County Museum, Hotel Love, James C. Nance Memorial Bridge, and Downtown Veterans Memorial as well as treasuring the unique views and quiet ambience of Purcell Lake and Chandler Park. The Brent Bruehl Golf Course is another local favorite as is the community events and activities such as the Mexican Heritage Festival, Cinco De Mayo, Chickashaha Inkana Festival, Fall Bluegrass Festival, Loose Caboose Festival, and From the Heartland Bluegrass Festival that bring together the area annually.
