William C. Rogers founded Skiatook in 1872 when he constructed a trading post in the Cherokee Nation just to the south of Bird Creek where the flowing stream was at its narrowest point. Today, the small trading post has expanded to a population of 5,000 Oklahomans situated 23 miles north of Tulsa, creating a small-town suburb serving the greater Tulsa area.
