First established with a post office in 1866, Baker City is located 129 miles northwest of Boise on the I-84. Unusually situated in the western portion of Oregon, Baker City is isolated from the majority of the state’s population that resides on the Pacific coast. Residents of a Baker City house or apartment for rent use the Baker City airport that provides limited commercial service as a means for quick transport to Portland and Eugene. Based on the days of logging and pioneers searching for the Pacific, Baker City has uniquely preserved its culture and has passed it from generation to generation. Although the city offers its residents a limited amount of shopping for day-to-day needs, most residents must travel to other nearby cities for the majority of their shopping.
Residents of an apartment or home for rent in Baker City fall in love with the rich and colorful history of the Oregon Trail, gold mining, timber production, and ranching. Most residents are also excited by the endless opportunities for outdoor recreational activities abound with camping, boating, hiking, bicycling, fishing, hunting, wildlife viewing, rafting, skiing, and snowmobiling. Apart from outdoor activities, other attractions in Baker City include Cathedral of Saint Francis de Sales, Baker City Historic District, Baker City Geiser Grand Hotel, National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center, U.S. Bank in downtown Baker City, Oregon Trail Regional Museum, and Eltrym Historic Theater. Local festivals supported by the community include the Miners' Jubilee and Elkhorn Classic bicycle race.
