First recognized by the noted explorers Lewis and Clark, Gladstone was transformed by early pioneers from Indian settlement to agricultural town. Originally built around four flour and lumbar mills, Gladstone is one of the only early villages to not be ruined by fire. Just 12 miles southwest of Portland, the city of Gladstone hosts 12,000 residents at the confluence of the Clackamas River and the Willamette River. Residents of a Gladstone house or apartment for rent located in the higher areas can easily see Mount Hood in the distance and in some places, Mount Adams and Mount St. Helens can also be seen. The city’s convenient location off of the I-205 provides simple commutes into Portland where the majority of Gladstone’s residents work.
Residents of an apartment or home rental in Gladstone are attracted to the area’s quiet streets and peaceful suburban living. The Max Patterson Memorial Park and Cross Memorial Park are filled with children daily, participating in a variety of recreational activities. The area also features a Children’s Golf Course. The Gladstone School District is comprised of a single elementary, middle, and high school. Known for its classic family barbeques, Gladstone’s weekend scene often includes neighborhood parties held at Dahl Beach or Meldrum Bar State Park.
