Although 17,000 residents call the city of Pendleton home, the Umatilla County city has preserved its rich heritage and small-town feel to provide its residents with a self-sufficient community 210 miles due east of Portland along the I-84 corridor. As early as 1851, the first signs of settlement appeared in what is now Pendleton when a commercial center was established as a trading post at the mouth of McKay Creek. Residents of an apartment or home for rent in Pendleton can find work locally at Pendleton Woolen Mills as well as a variety of other retail factories and manufactures based in the area. The Pendleton Round-Up, Professional Bull Riders Classic, and numerous events from the Pendleton Center for the Arts provide residents of a Pendleton house or apartment rental with convenient access to a variety of entertainment and community events throughout the year. The city’s All American Summer Blast includes Tunes Under The Trees and is an all-summer event that is family-friendly and includes day camps, overnight trips, concerts, movies, and competitions in the local parks. The construction of a skate park went underway in 2008.
