Located a convenient 29 miles east of Portland along Route 29, the city of Sandy serves as the gateway to the Mount Hood Corridor as well as home to over 7,000 residents. Because of Sandy’s size, there isn’t a large selection of stores available nearby, although many retailers are located a few miles closer to Portland and provide for convenient shopping. The Sandy River Airport is available for public use but is not served by commercial airlines and is open only to general aviation. Residents of a Sandy house or apartment rental utilize the local Sandy Metro that provides local service within the city. Sandy hosts a number of community events including the annual Sandy Mountain Festival, the Sandy Oktoberfest, and the yearly Hometown Holiday Festival and Parade. Residents of an apartment or home for rent in Sandy enjoy spending free time in the company of neighbors as evidenced by Sandy’s frequent block parties. The city also is home to Music Fair & Feast, Party On The Patio, and Family Night at Music Fair and Feast. Sandy also puts on one of the largest fireworks displays in the state, which draws a large crowd of both residents and visitors.
