Sixteen miles southwest of Portland’s downtown district, the city of Sherwood is a residential community in the Tualatin Valley with a population of just over 16,000 residents. The Donation Land Claim Act of 1850 gave American citizens exclusive ownership of the land and took the land away from the Indian inhabitants. Accordingly, by 1860, a town had been created the present location of Sherwood. Residents of a Sherwood house or apartment rental enjoy peace of mind and a short commute into Portland where the majority of residents work. Sherwood was named the 18th best place to live in America by Money Magazine in 2007. Residents of an apartment or home for rent in Sherwood can take part in a variety of community events and activities including Saturday Market in Old Town, Cruisin’ Sherwood, Run for the Roses, Robin Hood Festival, The Great Onion Festival, Movies on the Green, and Music on the Green. The Sherwood school system includes 4 elementary schools, a middle school, and high school, although a additional elementary and middle campuses are being constructed. Cinnamon Hills Park, Langer Park, Murdock Park, Oregon Trail Park, and Pioneer Park are among Sherwood’s better-known parks.
