Twenty miles north of Pittsburgh along the Ohio River, Aliquippa was created as a station along the route of the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad in 1878 and was actually an arbitrary Indian name assigned to the station. Once the center of the steel industry, the city has lost most commercial business due to the downfall of the steel market. However, residents of an Aliquippa house or apartment for rent value the city’s closeness to Pittsburgh, where most residents commute to for work.
The popular Greek Festival, San Rocco Festa, Arts Festival, St. Titus Festival, Halloween Party, Light Up Night, and Annual Bike Run are amongst a diverse list of cultural events and activities hosted by the Aliquippa community. Morrell Field and Jesse Bell Walker Park are favorites for residents of an apartment or home rental in Aliquippa because of their extensive recreational facilities, grassy lawns, and family-friendly playgrounds. The Aliquippa School District provides exceptional K-12 educations to area residents although the city also hosts a number of private and parochial schools in the city. A number of colleges are located within a few minutes of Aliquippa as well.
