Alongside the Ohio River, the city of Ambridge is home to 8,000 residents and was originally named after the American Bridge Company. During its peak, Ambridge was the center of the steel industry and has left a lasting impression from the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco to the Brooklyn Bridge in New York. Since then, the area has been turned into more of a suburban area 16 miles northwest of Pittsburgh and provides residents of an Ambridge house or apartment for rent with affordable living and convenient transportation for the commute into downtown Pittsburgh as well as across the nation via the nearby Pittsburgh International Airport. Starting in 2007, a revitalization plan began on Merchant Street in the Downtown Commercial District to liven the area and protect the city’s heritage.
The Ambridge Area School District provides essential K-12 education to the city with multiple elementary campuses, a middle school, and high school. Residents of an apartment or home rental in Ambridge especially enjoy the Old Economy Village that sponsors the Nationality Days Festival. The 3-day festival includes vendors that line the center of Merchant Street with Italian, Ukrainian, Greek, Polish, German, Croatian, and Slovenian cuisine. Residents also have access to some water sports on the Ohio River as well as gorgeous views of the waterway.
