As part of Erie County, the city of Corry is located in the northwestern most part of Pennsylvania and is just an hour’s drive from Lake Erie. The nearest large city is Buffalo, New York, 99 miles north. With a population just under 7,000, Corry was originally settled in 1795 along Hare Creek. The construction of the Atlantic and Great Western Railroad brought more settlers to Corry and began the development of the present-day city. The discovery of oil in nearby Titusville furthered the city’s growth although the decline of industry in the area has left Corry as a main residential community. Residents of an apartment or home for rent in Corry can use the Corry-Lawrence Airport for general aviation uses although most residents drive to Buffalo for commercial flights.
Despite its small population, Corry has its own daily newspaper, The Journal. Residents of a Corry house or apartment for rent can borrow books from the local public Carnegie Library that stores over 27,000 volumes of books for the community’s use. Comprised of three elementary schools and a comprehensive junior-senior high school, the Corry Area School District serves almost 2,800 local students. The 50-acre municipal park offers residents a wonderful spread of recreational areas and activities with its many playgrounds, pavilions, tennis courts, football fields, and baseball diamonds. The Climax Locomotive Historical Museum is also a popular attraction.
