A borough in Lehigh County and 52 miles north of Philadelphia on the I-476, Emmaus was founded in 1759 as a settlement for the Moravian Church. In 1859, the discovery of iron in the area prompted many mills to be created in the area and attracted the East Pennsylvania Railroad. Now home to over 11,000 residents, Emmaus was ranked by Money Magazine to be in the top 100 best places to live in the nation in 2007. Residents of an Emmaus house or apartment for rent can find jobs in the city with companies headquartered locally such as Rodale Press, Buckeye Pipe Line, Shangy's, and Yocco's Hot Dogs.
Conveniently located a few miles from Allentown and an hour from Philadelphia, the local rail network provides seamless connections to both metro areas within minutes. The arts are well regarded by the community and residents of an apartment or home rental in Emmaus. Art in the Garden, Emmaus Art Walk, and the Student Horror Film Festival are all held annually in support of the area’s artists. The East Penn School District includes 6 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, and a high school.
