Just around the river bend from downtown Pittsburgh, Mckeesport and its 24,000 residents enjoy suburban living 14 miles southeast of the metropolitan area. Found on the confluence of the Monongahela and Youghiogheny Rivers, Mckeesport is the 2nd largest city in Allegheny County after Pittsburgh. Founded in 1795, the city was originally a hotbed for coal mining and related industries. With a great number of European nationalities represented in town, residents of a Mckeesport house or apartment for rent embrace the ethnic diversity found in the city, as evidenced through the community’s numerous festivals and celebrations held throughout the year. The International Village and Festival of Trees are the two largest annual events.
Besides Pittsburgh’s daily newspaper, Mckeesport publishes its own The Daily News. Residents of an apartment or home for rent in Mckeesport are also treated to a variety of fun amenities including a summer concert series at the community band shell. Other local attractions include the Renziehausen Park Rose Garden and Arboretum, John F. Kennedy Memorial, McKeesport Heritage Center, and McKees-Point Marina. Mckeesport also hosts Penn State University’s Greater Allegheny Campus and serves as the regional 9-12 educational hub with the McKeesport Area High School. Headlined by the Richard J. Gergely Riverfront Park, Mckeesport also sponsors a large recreational program. The nationally acclaimed Mon-Yough Community Choir is also based in Mckeesport.
