Ninety miles due north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Meadville is hidden in the state’s northwestern corner, along the I-79. However, the closest major city is Erie, only 40 miles away. As the first settlement in the northwest portion of the state, Meadville is filled with cultural and historical tradition that remains true today and helps to bond the community. Founded in 1788, Meadville’s present location is where Cussewago Creek and French Creek meet. With a population of 14,000, the fall of the steel market led to a subsequent surge in light industry, earning Meadville the nickname “Tool City, USA.” Residents of an apartment or home for rent in Meadville typically commute to work and can make the 90-minute drive to Pittsburgh or can take the fairly reliable and efficient commuter rail.
Bicentennial Park, Cora Clark Park, De Arment Park, Diamond Park, Elizabeth Park, Huidekoper Park, Pomona Park, and Shadybrook Park are the largest of Meadville’s extensive park system. In order to serve both the younger and older generations, the city has designated some of its parks for senior citizens by planting flower gardens, creating scenic trails, and banning sports playing on its fields. However, the majority of parks provide basketball and tennis courts, grassy fields for soccer and football, and diamonds for baseball and softball. The city also organizes a variety of youth leagues throughout the year. Residents of a Meadville house or apartment for rent are also surrounded by a large selection of golf courses and other recreational activities.
