About Moosic

At the junction of the I-81 and I-476 is the town of Moosic, home to almost 6,000 residents. Part of Lackawanna County, Moosic is 6 miles south of Scranton, the nearest sizeable city, although it is also 120 miles north of Philadelphia. A former coal-mining region on the Lackawanna River, the town has seen its largest industry decline to almost nothing, but has recovered well since the devaluation of coal. Residents of a Moosic house or apartment for rent can find work in town at companies like Bank of America, Cigna, Prudential, and Metlife that have offices in the area. Most residents, however, commute to Scranton for work and an elite few take the train into Philadelphia every day.
