About Old Forge

Nestled in the northeastern corner of Pennsylvania in Lackawanna County, Old Forge’s origins come from its importance as a stagecoach inn during the American Revolution. Initially, Old Forge’s main industry was anthracite coal mining along with a minor silk throwing industry. However, both of those industries have since fallen by the wayside and an up and coming pizza industry has moved in. Sometimes known as the “Pizza Capital of the World,” Old Forge’s popular pizza has spread throughout the state and is beginning to form inroads in other markets. Residents of an apartment or home rental in Old Forge typically commute to work as the town itself has a very limited job market. Scranton, a few miles northeast, is a major working place for many residents.

The Old Forge School District is much smaller than its former self thanks to a split in districts, giving the town its own school district. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport and local train depot both effectively serve the Old Forge community.
