Nestled in the breathtaking eastern Pennsylvanian mountains, the borough of Schuylkill Haven is home to 6,000 residents about an hour, or 54 miles, north of Harrisburg. Although the area once hosted a spread of large car shops, underwear and shoe factories, and rolling mills, Schuylkill Haven is now primarily a bedroom community, offering a comfortable suburban experience to its residents of a house or apartment for rent. While a large amount of shopping and similar resources aren’t available in Schuylkill Haven, most residents can find suitable alternatives in Pottsville, 4 miles away, and Reading, 30 miles south.
Bulbeck Park is the town’s largest and most popular park because it serves all of the generations living in Schuylkill. Not only does it offer youth athletics and a community center, but the park also provides cooking classes, nature explorations, and several other recreational opportunities. A variety of neighborhood playgrounds are also scattered throughout the town. Residents of an apartment or home rental in Schuylkill are served quite well educationally with 2 high schools, Blue Mountain High School and Schuylkill Haven Area High School, unlike most similarly-size towns. The district also operates 2 elementary schools and 3 elementary schools. Penn State University at Schuylkill is also located within the town’s area. The community joins in celebrating a variety of events with festivities such as Family Night & Fourth of July Fireworks, Island Fest, Community Night at Bubeck Park, and Firemen's Celebration Parade.
