About Shenandoah

Accessed via the I-81, Shenandoah is 75 minutes outside of Harrisburg and hosts a population of just under 6,000. Because of the town’s relatively small size, most residents must commute to nearby cities for work and to run errands. Many jobs, shopping malls, big-box retailers, and banks are located in Allentown and Reading, although closer towns may offer some comparable services. Sixty-five miles northeast of the state capital, most residents of a Shenandoah house or apartment for rent only travel into Harrisburg for special occasions, to attend sporting events, or to travel on commercial flights. Shenandoah is also the only borough in Pennsylvania to have received service from 3 railroads, Lehigh Valley Railroad, Pennsylvania Railroad, and Reading Railroad, although only limited weekday service remains today.

Situated in the lower part of the anthracite Coal Region, Shenandoah can trace its roots back to the mining days of past, although the town has since been converted into a bedroom community with light industry on the outskirts of town. Residents of an apartment or home rental in Shenandoah often enjoy day trips to Locust Lake Park, a few miles away and on the other side of the I-81. The state park provides wonderful biking, beautiful forests, scenic trails, and barbequing facilities and is also located adjacent to Mountain Valley Golf Course for avid golfers.
