Situated in the southern part of Allegheny County, 12 miles south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, South Park is home to just under 8,000 residents that enjoy suburban living with a unique twist of vibrant small-town living. Originally created around a large regional park, the town grew around the attractive and always busy South Park. Historically South Park was the original site of the Oliver Miller Homestead where the Whiskey Rebellion first started in 1794. Residents of a South Park house or apartment for rent appreciate the area’s rich heritage, preservation of its past, and excellent location that provides ample resources in town but is also only 25 minutes from Pittsburgh.
South Park’s largest and most expansive park is also called South Park and provides enough space for all of the town’s residents to take part in recreation at once, if need be. The diverse facility includes ice skating rinks, tennis courts, a roller hockey rink, championship golf course, picnic areas, playgrounds, baseball diamonds, sled riding areas, walking and biking trails, wave-action swimming pool, and a dog park. Summer concerts and horseback riding are also held in the park. The South Park School District serves the local community with an elementary school for grades K through 4 and the recently-completed South Park Senior High School for grades 9 through 12, built in 2005. Middle school students must attend a campus on the outskirts of South Park. Residents of an apartment or home rental in South Park are also especially impressed with the community’s devotion to the area’s culture and celebrate many annual cultural days.
