About Turtle Creek

Before the arrival of settlers from the east, a small village of the Turtle Clan of the Iroquois Nation existed in the Turtle Creek area. The town takes its name from a small stream that flows into the Monongahela River. A borough in Allegheny County, Turtle Creek is home to 6,000 Pennsylvanians and was initially grown thanks to Westinghouse Company’s construction of a manufacturing plant nearby. Most residents of a Turtle Creek house or apartment for rent, thanks to the town’s location just 11 miles from Pittsburgh, commute to work as the jobs in Turtle Creek itself are fairly limited. Besides the highway system, 2 sets of rails offer service into the city. One departs from the west side of town and the other on the other side of the creek. While driving takes about 20 minutes with no traffic, the train ride is typically 15 minutes.

Grand View Golf Club and Forest Woodlawn Park are both outside of town but offer residents of an apartment or home rental in Turtle Creek with fantastic 18-hole course and extensive recreational facilities, respectively. Recreationally, many residents can be spotted splashing in the creek in the warmer months of the year. However, the Monongahela River, a mile or so downstream, is used commercially and doesn’t cater to recreation. While Turtle Creek itself doesn’t sponsor a sports or recreation program due to its lack of significant fields and recreation complexes, Forest Hills and Pitcairn are within a 10-minute drive and offer various programs that are open to town residents.
