About Lincoln

Located in northeastern Rhode Island and 11 miles north of Providence, Lincoln was settled in the 1600s with the construction of several gorgeous colonial stone-enders. Because of the extensive limestone quarrying in the vicinity, many of Lincoln’s homes are heavily decorated with the popular rock. The Blackstone River that runs on the east side of town once provided power to a variety of mills, although most light industries that once thrived in Lincoln have since been replaced by well-maintained houses and even some picturesque mansions. Residents of an apartment or home rental in Lincoln find that Lincoln’s location is not only convenient for 15-minute drives into Providence but also 55-minute commutes northeast into the greater Boston area, Lincoln’s second most popular work destination. Regional rail service provides a few trains to and from Providence on weekdays.

The Lincoln Department of Education operates 4 elementary schools, a middle school, built in 2006, and a high school, refurbished in 2007. The Flanagan Campus of the Community College of Rhode Island is also situated in Lincoln.
