Settled by French immigrants, Abbeville is situated 57 miles due south of Greenville, South Carolina, and encompasses the historical distinction of being both the birthplace and the deathbed of the Confederacy. Because of the town’s limited size, most residents of an Abbeville house or apartment for rent commute into Greenville for work, either by driving an hour and 20 minutes or by taking the regional train that serves both Greenville and Charleston from town.
