Tucked away in the northeastern corner of the state, Cheraw has been nicknamed "The Prettiest Town in Dixie” and is home to a manageable population of just under 6,000 residents. Originally the home of Cheraw Indians, the only remnants of the tribe is the town’s name as European settlement in the area in 1750 completely renewed the area with the establishment of a village to tap into the growing river trade. Interestingly, Cheraw was 1 of only 7 places ever listed on English maps.
