First inhabited by Native Americans and later settlers from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Lancaster’s population is now pushing 63,000 people. Duracell, Cardinal Healthcare, U.S. Textiles Corporation, and ZF Lemforder Corporation are the largest employers in Lancaster and operate extensive manufacturing facilities in town. Most residents that do not work locally either work in Columbia, a 75-minute drive away, or Charlotte, 55 minutes north.
